For intermediate surfers, I'd suggest:
Week 1 - South Bali: Canggu (Batu Bolong for mellow days, Echo Beach when it's firing), Uluwatu for when you're feeling confident
Week 2 - East Coast: Keramas for punchy reef breaks, or head to Nusa Lembongan for uncrowded playful waves
Expect 4-8ft faces on the south coast. East side will be smaller and more forgiving.
Go at mid-tide on a smaller day (4-5ft) and you'll have a blast.
Week 1 - Canggu:
Look at guesthouses on Jl. Pantai Berawa. You'll be a 5-min scooter ride from Batu Bolong and Old Man's. At $60-80/night you can get a private pool villa for two. The Slow area has the best coffee-to-surf ratio.
Week 2 - East side:
Sanur is your best base -- calm, affordable, and 25 min to Keramas. The harbor for Lembongan boats is right there too. Guesthouses along Jl. Danau Tamblingan are solid.
Want me to draft a day-by-day itinerary?
Day 1: Arrive, settle in Canggu, sunset surf at Batu Bolong
Day 2-4: Surf Canggu, explore Tanah Lot temple
Day 5: Seminyak food crawl -- Naughty Nuri's, Sisterfields, Motel Mexicola
Day 6-7: Uluwatu sessions + cliffside dinner at Single Fin
Day 8: Travel to Sanur
Day 9-11: Surf Keramas mornings, chill afternoons
Day 12: Day trip to Nusa Lembongan
Day 13: Mt. Batur sunrise trek (3am pickup, worth it)
Day 14: Final surf, fly home sunburnt and happy
I can refine any of these days.
Ok so we're actually doing this. Bali surf trip. I'm thinking two weeks in June.
I'm so in. I've only surfed Canggu though, want to explore more of the coast this time ๐
@tandem we're planning a surf trip to Bali for two weeks in June. What are the best areas for intermediate surfers?
June is dry season -- great timing! For intermediate surfers:
Week 1 - South Bali: Canggu (Batu Bolong for mellow days, Echo Beach when it's firing), Uluwatu when you're feeling confident
Week 2 - East Coast: Keramas for punchy reef breaks, Nusa Lembongan for uncrowded playful waves
Uluwatu sounds amazing but also terrifying lol. Is it doable for intermediates?
The Inside section at Uluwatu is the most intermediate-friendly -- long, forgiving walls. Avoid The Peak and Racetracks until you're comfortable with shallow reef. Go at mid-tide on a smaller day (4-5ft) and you'll have a blast ๐
@tandem find us villas near Canggu for week 1? Budget around $60-80/night.
